Chemical treatment is one of the primary causes of hair damage. Hair treatment is commonly used as a solution to this problem but most hair treatment products are comprised of chemical ingredients as well, which can also cause scalp and hair damage. This study attempted to investigate the physical changes of damaged hair by applying natural plant materials. For this, hair samples (dyed hair, bleached hair, permed hair) were prepared and washed with distilled water, and Gookhwasan extract was applied. Depending on the application of the extract to the experimental group, the samples were classified by contents, time, damage repetition frequency, damage category and hair damage index. For data analysis, the mean difference of test results was analyzed through one-way ANOVA and repeated measures ANOVA, using SPSSWIN 22.0. The results found the following: On average, the experimental group revealed better effects than the control group. The hair improvement effects were proportional to the degree of hair damage. When 국화산 extract was applied to the damaged hair, ‘30ml’ and ‘30 minutes’ were most desirable. In particular, it revealed significant effects on dyed hair. Therefore, it appears that Gookhwasan extract is appropriate in treating damaged hair and would a make a contribution to the development of natural plant substance-related studies.
