Globalization has brought changes in many areas of Korean society. In the past 10 years, cancer and other geriatric diseases among Koreans have been radically growing, possibly resulting from dietary changes and lack of exercise. Among the growing number of geriatric patients, those with circulatory diseases(cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases) are consistently growing. Cardiovascular diseases include not only ailment of cardiovascular organs, but also various symptoms resulting from cardiovascular malfunctions, such as hypertension, angina, myocardial infarction, and strokes. Since cardiovascular diseases are correlated with many other geriatric symptoms, they should be researched more seriously on the ground of promoting national health and well-being.
