한국의 선비정신과 이충무공의 리더십

Korean Sun-bi Tenet and The Leadership of Lee Chung Mu Gong

현대사회는 물질문명과 개인주의 정신이 만연하고 정신문명과 공동체주의 정신이 점점 결여되어가고 있다. 다시 말하면 물질이나 금전이면 무엇이나 할 수 있다는 생각과 자기이익에만 연연하는 이기주의적 태도를 가지기 쉽고 올바른 가치관 정립이 어려운 사회에서 살고 있다. 이러한 현대사회 속에서 온고지신(溫故知新)의 정신으로 옛 조상들이 지녀왔던 삶의 슬기로운 지혜를 살펴보는 것은 현대를 살아가고 미래를 개척해야 하는 우리에게 새로운 삶의 좌표를 제시해줄 것이라는 무한한 기대를 할 수 있다. 특히 조선 선비들의 문무 겸비정신 속에서 이충무공의 정신을 찾아보고 이를 바탕으로 현대적 의미의 리더십을 조망해 보는 것은 상당한 의미가 있을 것으로 판단된다. 우리 사회의 황금만능주의 만연의 정도를 가늠하기 위해 부정부패에 관련된 몇 가지 통계를 살펴보면, 우리나라의 부패인식도는 세계 102개국 중 40위로 나타나고 있으며, 우리나라 소득수준에 알맞은 수준인 28위와는 상당한 격차가 있다. 가장 바르게 살아야 할 우리나라 공무원의 바람직하지 못한 행위인 비위유형별 집계현황을 살펴보면 품위손상, 규정위반, 직무유기, 태만 중 수회 감독 불충분, 공문서 위조, 공금유용, 공금횡령, 비밀누설 등 표 <1-1>에서 보는 바와 같다. 물질만능주의의 팽배는 필연적으로 부정부패의 씨앗이 되고 사회를 혼탁하게 만드는 원인을 제공하는 것이다. 이러한 물질만능주의가 팽배한 현대사회를 극복하고 좀 더 맑은 미래와 발전된 국가건설을 위해서 본 글에서는 조상들의 슬기로운 삶의 지혜를 새롭게 조망하고 그 중에서도 특히 평생을 바르고 정직하게 살면서 국가를 위기에서 구하고 조선의 선비정신을 계승 실천한 이충무공의 정신과 리더십에 대해 살펴봄으로써 오늘을 사는 모든 사람에게 교훈을 제시하고자 한다.

Today, material civilization and individualism have been spread into our society and we are losing spiritual civicism and Community Spirit. In other words, we are living in a society where people who think money and material can do everything, so we tend to be egoistic and it is difficult to get an upright value. In this current society, by studying the wisdom of the ancestors, we could expect to get a new direction in our life where we have to live present and cultivate the future. Especially, we can find the spirits of Lee Chung Mu Gong within the spirits of Chosun Sun-bi. Then, it will be very helpful to view the new meaning of leadership by learning his spirit. In the history of 5000 years, we have a lot of bright Sun-bi tenet that we must learn to succeed our great cultural heritage. Korean Sun-bi tenet can be categorized into the Choong Hyo(loyalty and filial duty) spirit, Chung -Bin(honesty) spirit, the spirit of Justice, the spirit of respecting courtesy, the community spirit, and the spirit of tolerance and modesty. These tenet have made excellent Sun-Bis through history, and created a hero like Lee Chung Mu Gong. Lee Chung Mu Gong, who succeeded the spirit was different from the other scholars. They can be divided into 2 classes which one class of them avoid the current situation, if the situation was not the same as what they want it to be. The other class of the Sun-bis thought that most important thing is the absolute obedience to the King. They follow the King s decision with loyalty, even though their opinions might differ. However, Lee was neither both of them. He faced the current situation and most importantly considered the future of the country and the safety of the nation. Moreover, he did not follow the king when he thought the King was wrong. He was ready to die for the nation and for the country. Creativity for preparing the future, mind of taking the initiative and setting an example, expert knowledge for responsibility, love to the nation as a public servant, consideration for followers more than himself, self-reliance in every situation, respect for subordinate s opinion, wise decision, and impartial punishment were the factors of the leadership of Lee Chung Mu Gong We have to learn the Spirit of Lee Chung Mu Gong even in present times, but also the future should be in deep consideration to have a prudent attitude for peace of the natino and for the country 1) Sun-bi : exemplify their philosophy, scholar oriented mind set, leadership 2) Chung Mu Kong : supreme title for an individual whose achievement were recognized by the King for hiscountry
