The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects on bone mineral densities of calcium supplementation and weight training in middle-aged women. Thirty women were participated and divided into two groups, calcium group(CG) and exercise-calcium group(ECG). The ECG was administered for 24 weeks(4 times a week, 1 hour a day) with the 70% intensity. The following results were obtained. After 24 weeks, the weight(F=10.882, p=0.004) and the muscular content(F=36.30, p=0.000) were significantly decreased both two groups. Bone density of femur was significantly increased(F=6.44, p=0.02) and bone density of ulna(distal part) was also significantly increased(F=4.78, p=0.042) in this study. However, there were no significant differences among the rest of the body parts. Bone density of lumbar vertebrae of ECG was sustained from 0.9379 mg/㎤ to 0.9347 mg/㎤. On the other hand, bone density of lumbar vertebrae of CG was little decreased from 1.0068 mg/㎤ to 0.8364 mg/㎤.
