The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of weight training on anabolic hormone (IGF-1, Testosterone), Insulin, and strength, heart rate, and lactate concentration. Twenty health men (age; 65-70) who had not been performed regular exercise before the experiment were studied. All participants were tested before and after a 16-wk weight training program. Weight training program was consisted of bench press, squat, sit-up, knee extension and flexion, leg curl, and leg press. Subject trained 3 days/wk for l6weeks. Muscle strength, power, and endurance were determined using Isokinetic dynamometer (Cybex-Ⅱ system). Blood sample was obtained at rest, immediately after completion of the test, and during recovery. All variables were measured and analysed before and after training. Weight training resulted in no significant improvement of anabolic hormone, whereas insulin concentration showed significantly decrease after weight training. Also muscle endurance increased significantly by weight training but no difference was founded in heart rate and lactate concentration. In conclusion, weight training enhanced muscle function and metabolic capacity. Further investigation needed to elucidate exact mechanisms of training and hormone change after resistant training related to aerobic exercise and RNA change.
