The Korean economy whose degree of dependence on foreign trade is very high has faced a gradually slowed growth rate of export due to an increase in uncertainty of the world economy, the protective trade strengthened by each country and a severe export competition with China since the global financial crisis in 2008. As the number of people belonging to the working age population has been declining due to the decrease in the birth rate and rapid aging population domestically, a long period of economic recession is expected like in the case of Japan. In order to overcome such a crisis, the growth of Korean SMEs that are responsible for the domestic employment of 99.9% of the working population in Korea must be subsidized continuously. However, the export proportion of the top 20 domestic companies takes around 48% of the total export volume and the polarization of the exports between the Korean big conglomerates and SMEs is getting wider. In this study, the domestic export support system and the export financial support system that are executed by the government and some relevant authorities shall be generally examined by a meta-analysis of related literature. Regarding to the effects of the awareness and the utilization levels of the same systems by the exporting SMEs, an empirical analysis shall be implemented while targeting the exporting SMEs. This study is intended to offer some proposals aimed at improvement in the system.
