The Development of Computer Assisted Instruction for Basic English Learning

학습자가 CAI 영어학습프로그램을 통하여 비디오, 애니메이션, 그림, 음악 등을 감상하면서 흥미 있게 영어학습을 할 수 있도록 프로그램을 개발하였다. 또한 학습자가 각자의 수준과 능력에 맞는 교과 내용을 선택해서 능률적으로 학습을 할 수 있게 하였고, 학습자의 요구에 의해서 프로그램이 진행될 수 있도록 구성하였다. 특히 본 프로그램에서 원어민의 발음을 정확하게 들을 수 있도록 원어민의 발음을 동영상으로 편집하여 반복학습이 가능하도록 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to develop the computer assisted instruction (CAI) program for effective basic English learning, and provide this program to the English teacher and students in order to contribute in the improvement of English teaching and learning. an English teaching and learning. Specially computer assisted instructional media, because it is very effective for individual learning. With this program, student can study English fit into his own intellectual level and ability. It is reported that students who use the CAI program got a the higher scholastic records than students who didn’t use it (Choi, Soo-Yong, 1966). This CAI English program is made for the students chose the basic or advanced contents according to his own intellectual level. The characteristics of this program is to make the best use of the hotword function. If one click hotword,〈music〉, then one can listen to a beautiful song. Or if he click the hotword,〈movie〉, then he can see an interesting movie. Students can listen to the native speaker’s exact pronunciation and imitate it. I recorded Miss Mary Jane and Mr. William Paulsons’ narration on video tape and edited them for this Computer Assisted Instructional English program, In the past, teachers usually taught students with a textbook-based methods. But nowadays, most teachers teach them with a resource-based methods. With a resource-based methods students can learn their own intellectual level and ability, but with a textbook-based method, it can’t. I would like to advise to develop the Computer Assisted Instruction English program, even if it would be very simple one. I hope this study would be helpful to develop the CAI program for the English teachers.
