Search for the Educational Meaning of the Concept of Creativity

본 연구는 다양한 학문적 관점에서 창의성의 정체를 어떻게 파악하고 있는지를 인지적, 정의적, 과정적, 결과의 측면에서 살펴보고, 교육적 가치추구의 맥락에서 논의하였다. 창의성의 정의는 위 네 가지 측면을 포괄하는 개념으로서 ‘독창적이고 유용한 산물을 만들어 낼 수 있는 인물의 육성’이라고 정의할 수 있다. 창의성 교육은 영역 특수적인 지식과 기능, 그리고 관련영역에서의 창의적 태도 등을 습득시켜주기 위해 각 교과교육에서 관심을 기울일 뿐 아니라, 일반 영역에서의 창의적 사고 기능과 인성, 동기, 태도 등을 습득시켜주기 위해 교과 이외의 시간(예, 특별활동, 재량활동, 프로젝트 학습 등)에 시킬 수 있다. 창의성 교육은 과정중심으로 이루어져야 하며, 평가는 창의성 교육의 목적과 내용, 방법을 포함하는 포괄적인 평가로 이루어져야 한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine creativity from various academic perspectives in an attempt to discuss the nature of creativity in the aspects of cognition, affectivity, process and outcome in pursuit of the educational value of it. The concept of creativity is comprehensive of the four aspects, and creativity education could be defined as ‘nurturing people who can produce original and useful results.’ The definition of creativity is expected to make it possible to suggest some of the right directions for the object, content, method and evaluation of education and to facilitate the planning and execution of education. Creativity education refers to letting learners acquire multiple abilities involving area-specific knowledge, area-specific skills, general creative thinking faculty, creative personality, motivation and attitude. Therefore creativity education could be provided during normal classroom hours as part of academic education to have learners acquire area-specific knowledge, area-specific skills and creative attitude, and that could be conducted in non-academic class as well such as extracurricular activities, optional activities and project learning to let them acquire a general creative thinking faculty, creative personality and creative attitude. That should be process-centered and designed to expedite problem solving, and a comprehensive evaluation that covers all the purpose, content and method of education should be implemented. Thus, the educational significance of the concept of creativity was explored by trying to have an extensive understanding of it in terms of its value as what to be educated, cognitive ability, affective characteristics, process and outcome(products: works).
