노벨과학상 수상자들의 개인적 특성과 연구 동력에 관한 연구

A Study on the Personal Characteristics and the Driving Force of Research Activities of Nobel Prize Winners in Science

본 연구에서는 노벨과학상 수상자들을 대상으로 개인적 특성과 연구 동력에 관해 살펴보았다. 연구를 위해 관련 선행연구를 탐색하고 노벨과학상 수상자들의 인터뷰가 실려 있는 신문 기사 및 도서 등을 조사했다. 수집한 자료를 검토, 정리한 후 코딩 작업을 거듭하며 수정 및 보완을 거쳐 개념과 범주를 도출하고 확정했다. 본 연구의 분석 대상은 1972년∼2017년에 노벨과학상을 수상한 이들 중 41명이고, 제시된 자료는 2001년 5월 9일∼2017년 10월 3일 사이에 국내 언론을 통해 보도된 기사 및 출판 도서가 기반이 되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 노벨과학상 수상자들의 <개인적 특성>과 노벨과학상 <수상 이유와 연구동력> 두 부분으로 나누어졌다. <개인적 특성>은 과학을 하게 된 계기, 인생의 가치와 취미, 어려움과 실패에 대한 태도가 있었다. <수상 이유와 연구 동력>은 노벨상 수상 이유에 대한 생각, 연구 활동의 원동력과 아이디어 구상 방법, 연구를 뒷받침한 환경이 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 비단 노벨상에 국한되지 않고 행복한 삶과 자아실현을 꿈꾸는 이들이 자신의 분야에서 능력과 뜻을 펼치는 데도움이 되는 교육적 함의를 구체적으로 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

In this study, I examined the personal characteristics of Nobel Prize winners and the driving force behind their research activities. For research, I searched for related research and investigated newspaper articles and books on interviews of Nobel Prize winners. After reviewing and summarizing the collected data, the coding work was repeatedly revised and supplemented, and the concept and category were derived and confirmed. The subjects of this study were 41 of the Nobel Prize winners from 1972 to 2017, and the data presented were based on articles reported by domestic media between May 9, 2001 and October 3, 2017 and other books. The results of this study were divided into two parts: Nobel Prize winners <personal characteristics> and <the reasons for the award and the driving force of the research activities>. <Personal characteristics> were the opportunity to study science, the value and hobbies of life, and the attitude toward difficulties and failures. <The reasons for the award and the driving force of the research activities> were the thoughts of the reasons for the Nobel Prize, the driving force of the research activities, how to form ideas, and the environment that supported the research. Through this study, it will be possible to provide specific educational implications to help those who dream of happiness and self-realization not to be confined to the Nobel Prize.
