문화강좌를 통해 본 서울 강남과 강북의 문화취향 -

Cultural Taste of Seoul Gangnam and Gangbuk Viewed via Cultural Lessons - Focusing on the Cultural Lessons in Department Store Culture Center and Community Centers

본 연구는 서울의 강남과 강북을 한국 사회의 특권계급과 비특권계급을 상징하는 계급공간으로 보고, 두 지역에 개설되어 있는 문화강좌의 내용을 해당 지역의 문화취향으로 간주하여 이들 간의 상동성 여부를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 강남은 강북에 비해 고액의 수강료를 책정하고 있어 경제적인 측면에서 차이를 보였다. 둘째, 강남은 강북보다 더 많은 수의 강좌를 개설하고 있고, 종류 면에 있어서도 보다 다양한 문화강좌를 개설하고 있어 개설 강좌 수와 종류의 다양성 측면에서 차이를 보였다. 셋째, 강남은 강북에 비해 고급문화와 관련된 문화강좌를 더욱 많이 개설하고 있어 문화강좌의 내용적인 측면에서도 차이를 보였다. 이 같은 결과를 통해 본 연구에서는 서울의 강남과 강북이 경제적인 차원에서뿐만 아니라 문화적인 차원에서도 격차를 보이고 있음을 확인하였다.

This study views the Gangnam and the Gangbuk areas in Seoul as the class representing space each for the privileged and the non-privileged class. The homology between the contents of the cultural lessons and the area’s cultural taste is examined by regarding that the cultural lessons offered in each area reflects the area’s cultural tastes. As a result, first, there is an economic difference between these two areas, in that the tuition fees in Gangnam areas are higher than those in Gangbuk areas. Second, Gangnam and Gangbuk areas differ in terms of the number of lessons and its diversity; there are more lessons available and the lessons are more varied in Gangnam than Gangbuk areas. Third, cultural lessons of Gangnam and Gangbuk areas are different in terms of its contents; cultural lessons in Gangnam areas deal more with high culture than those in Gangbuk areas. Through such results, this study ascertains that not only economic gap but also cultural difference exists between Gangnam and Gangbuk.
