이 논문의 목적은 수많은 인터넷 파일공유 사이트에서 불법적으로 다운로드 되고 있는 디지털콘텐츠의 범람이 오프라인 콘텐츠시장을 위축시키고 있음을 실증적으로 보이는 데 있다. 구조화된 소비자설문조사 결과를 계량분석의 데이터로 이용하여 불법적으로 다운로드된 디지털콘텐츠가 구체적으로 극장관객수와 DVD시장 규모를 어느 정도 위축시키는가를 추정하였다. 실증분석결과, DVD시장이 극장보다 불법다운로드에 더 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 불법다운로드된 영화로 인해 극장관객의 5.2%가 줄어들었고 DVD시장의 47.8%가 줄어든 것으로 나타났다.
The purpose of this paper is to prove that digital contents dampens offline contents markets as a significant proportion of digital contents is illegally exchanged in numerous internet file-sharing sites. Using a structured consumer survey results, we try to estimate how much percentage of the demand for movie tickets and DVDs are replaced by illegally downloaded digital movies. Empirical results show that DVD sales are much more greatly affected by illegally downloaded movies than movie ticket sales. In Korean movie markets, movie ticket sales have decreased by 5.2% due to online downloaded movies, while DVD sales have decreased by 47.8% due to contents piracy.
