The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a music jump rope on blood lipid and growth hormone in obese middle school girls. A music jump rope of 50~80%THR was conducted for 60 minutes per day, three times per week for 12 weeks with the obese middle school girls with ≥30% body fat. The following conclusions were drawn. First, in the change of blood lipid before and after the music jump rope, the exercise group had statistically significant differences in TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C(p<.001). Second, in the change of growth hormone before and after the music jump rope, the exercise group had statistically significant differences in GH and IGF-1(p<.001). Based on the findings, regular physical activity by the music jump rope increased HDL-C, decreased TC, TG, and LDL-C, and improved the secretion of GH and IGF-1 hormones in obese middle school girls. It suggests that the music jump rope is effective to improve physical problems caused by obesity. Moreover, a music jump rope program is meaningful to solve the disadvantage of a simple jump rope by adding the element of music and offer a more exciting program which can develop cooperation required for the adolescence. However, it is difficult to generalize the study results because a control problem occurred and the number of the subjects was small as an experiment was conducted during the semester.
