Effect of Rolling-Eye Exercise on Eye Dryness and Eye Fatigue among College Students

The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of Rolling-Eye Exercise (REE) on the eye dryness and fatigue in college students. Methods: This study utilized a non-equivalent control group pre and post test design. A total of 46 subjects were recruited and assigned to experimental (n=24) and control group (n=22). To induce eye fatigue both groups watched a video for 25 minutes and typed books contents in computer for 15 minutes. Then, eye dryness was measured using Eye Symptom Questionnaire and strip meniscometry and eye fatigue was measured by using Virtual Reality Symptom Questionnaire (VRSQ). The experimental group received REE for 30 minutes and but the controls took a rest for 30 minutes. ater the experiment, their eye fatigue and dryness were measured. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in symptoms of eye dryness (t=2.814, p=.007) and fatigue (t=2.034, p=.048), but there was no differences between groups in strip meniscometry (t=-1.089, p=.285). Conclusion: These results suggest that REE might be useful to decrease eye dryness and fatigue in people who read books or use computers or mobile devices for a long time like college students.
