script theory, applying it to the English class of second graders at high school and verifying its effectiveness. For learners to transfer what they learn in class to long-term memory, they need the cognitive frame for it. Sufficient exposure to the target language can make the frame completed by undergoing trial and error. However, in an EFL situation, it is hard for learners to have opportunity to get procedural knowledge in conversation, which means that learners can hardly access the cultural and procedural knowledge making it more difficult for learners to internalize the communicative functions and various expressions. People understand and remember an event depending on the existing knowledge they have, or schemata, one of which is related to our behavior in everyday life, called script. If learners acquire this knowledge, then they can understand and judge the conversational context more accurately and respond to the context appropriately, which leads to communication without problems. Through this study, it is found that syllabus based script theory can help learners improve their communicative competence and also have a positive effect on the cognitive and affective growth of students.
