The Effect of Emotional Intelligence and Social Support on Career Adaptability Mediated by Career Decision Self-Efficacy in Korean College Students

우리나라 대학생의 정서지능과 사회적지지가 진로결정 자기효능감을 매개로 커리어 적응성에 미치는 영향

Today, there is a demand for research on the concept of career related to the changing environment due to severe environmental change. Career adaptability is a readiness for both predictable and unpredictable changes. In this study, based on Social Cognitive Career theory the researcher selected emotional intelligence as an individual variable and social support as an environmental variable, and analyzed the relationship of the influence on career adaptability by these variables and effect of career decision self-efficacy as a mediator. A multiple regression analysis was conducted on 507 data across from the 12 universities. The findings are aw follows: First, emotional intelligence had a statistically significant effect on career adaptability. Second, social support had a statistically significant effect on career adaptability. Third, career decision self-efficacy has a partial mediating effect on emotional intelligence and social support in relation to career adaptability. Among emotional intelligence and social support, emotional intelligence had more influence on career adaptability. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

오늘날은 환경변화가 심하여 변화하는 환경에 적합한 커리어 관련 개념에 대한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 커리어 적응성은 예측가능한 변화와 예측불가능한 변화 모두에 대한 준비도이다. 본 연구에서는 사회인지 진로이론의 관점에서 개인변인으로 정서지능, 환경변인으로 사회적지지를 선정하고 이들 변인이 커리어 적응성에 미치는 영향관계를 분석하였다. 이들 변인들 간에 진로결정 자기효능감이 매개역할을 하는지도 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 우리나라 대학생 507명에게(12개교) 설문조사를 하였고 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 정서지능은 커리어 적응성에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째 사회적지지는 커리어 적응성에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 정서지능과 사회적지지가 커리어 적응성에 영향을 미치는 관계에서 진로결정 자기효능감이 부분매개효과를 나타내었다. 독립변인인 정서지능과 사회적지지 중 커리어 적응성에 미치는 영향은 정서지능이 더 컸다. 이 연구 결과를 바탕으로 커리어 적응성을 높이기 위한 정서지능과 사회적지지 관련 프로그램 개발의 근거를 마련하였으며, 한국적 맥락에 맞추어 사회인지 진로이론의 경험적 증거를 제시하였다.
