Activities of Pak Kyu-su’s Pukch on Poetical Circle - Focused on Materials of Surrounding People

박규수는 19세기 조선을 대표하는 학자이자 정치가이다. 사실 그는 문학 방면으로도 탁월한 재능을 타고 났지만, 학문과 실천에 전념하기 위해 문학작품의 창작은 일부러 소홀히 하였다. 그렇지만 그 양이 많지는 않더라도 그가 남긴 문학작품은 그 수준이 빼어나고, 조선 사회에서의 시회 활동이라는 것은 문학적 활동을 넘어 정치적 의미를 지니고 있으므로 박규수의 문학 활동에 대한 연구를 소홀히 할 수는 없다. 이에 본고는 박규수의 시회 활동에 대해 연구하였다. 특히 박규수와 함께 시회 활동을 하였던 주변 인물들의 자료를 통해 박규수가 어떻게 문학 활동을 하였는지를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 박규수는 주변의 벗들에게 타고난 학자요 치열한 경륜가로 비쳐졌음을 다시금 확인할 수 있었는데, 문학과 예술에 대한 그의 열정이 상당히 컸음도 알 수 있었다. 또 고종대에는 대원군이 후원을 하여 박규수의 집 등 북촌 일대에서 성대한 시회가 보름이나 이어졌는데, 이를 통해서는 박규수와 흥선대원군이 매우 가까운 관계였다는 점도 알 수 있었다. 이러한 내용들은 향후 박규수에 대한 전기적 연구에 활용될 수 있을 것이며, 서울 북촌시단의 연구에도 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

Pak Kyu-su is a scholar and politician who represents the Chosŏn Dynasty in the 19th century. In fact, he showed a great talent for the literary field. But he intentionally neglected creating literary works. The study of this Pak Kyu-su’s literary activity is crucial. It is important that poetical circle has political meaning that exceeds literary activity in the Chosŏn Dynasty, and the works he left behind are outstanding even though there is not a large amount. This paper studies Pak Kyu-su’s poetical circle, especially it is focused on materials of surrounding people that participated in poetical circle with him. He had a great zest for literature and art. Also, it was confirmed that he was a scholar by nature and an ardent politician for the people surrounding him. This also reveals that Pak Kyu-su has always had particularly close ties to Heungseon Daewongun during the period of Kojong’s reign. Pak Kyu-su had a great poetical circle in Pukch on area that was supported by Heungseon Daewongun. These texts could be utilized in research of Pak Kyu-su for the future, and this could help research Pukch on poetical circle.
