초등 실과교육 연구의 내용과 방향

A Review and Synthesis of the Research in Elementary Practical Arts Education

The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize the previous research in elementary practical arts education. This study was prepared through an extensive of literature related to elementary practical arts education. The review of literature included 48 articles published in the Journal of Practical Arts Education(l985 -1996), 10 articles from other sources, some action-research(l985 -1995), and 25 theses. It covered the following aspects of practical arts education: (l)nature, importance, and philosophy, (2)educational contents (general home economics, agriculture, fishery, industry, business, and computer areas), (3)curriculum, (4)methods of teaching and learning, (5)teaching materials and textbooks, (6)evaluation, (7)adminstration and supervision, (8)teacher education, (9)facilities and laboratory, (l0)professional roles, (11)research, and (12)others. The results showed that the research base for some of the areas was small while it was nonexistent for others: It was concluded that the previous research was not enough to build the knowledge base for the practical arts education as a discipline. The author suggested areas needing research and made some recommendations for the better research and improvement in elementary practical arts education.
