The purpose of this study is to investigate the identity of practical arts education in elemantary school. For this goal, I studied on the changes of curriculum and textbook from the first to sixth educational programs. Through the researches, I have got the following results; First, the core contents of the curriculum and textbook have been focused on the practical and living life respectively. Second, practical arts can be characterized as four parts; 1) Practical arts has been characterized of living, technical, and integral subjects. 2) Based on the theory of erikson and piaget, practical arts gives a great deal of help to child development. 3) Practical Arts is consisted of diverse academic areas. 4) Finally, practical arts keeps its original area that can not be replaced by any other subjects.
