Current Use and Needs Assessment of a Field-Based Learning for Practical Arts Education with Elementary Schools in Taegu-Kyongbuk Areas

This study was to investigate the current status of a field-based learning used by teachers and to determine its needs perceived by them for practical arts education in elementary schools. It was carried out by using the mailed-questionnaire developed by the researcher based on the review of extensive literature related to the study. Population were teachers working in all elementary schools located in the Taegu and Kyongbuk areas. Data was collected from 294 teachers working in 53 out of 90 elementary schools randomly selected. Findings showed that a field-based learning approach was being used by more than half of the respondents to teach practical arts through the time of the Practical Arts Subject, extracurricular, and school’s own discretion in the school. Recommendations directions for using the field-based learning approach to teach practical arts were made in the paper.
