The purpose of this study was to identify the rationale of integration in practical arts education based on ‘an experience’ of John Dewey. The method of this study was to review of the literatures about subject matter’s integration in practical arts education and Dewey’s theory. The previous literatures of integration in practical arts education were two kinds of the study. One was related curriculum. Another was related instructional method. Dewey’ experience in situation implied the interactive experience between human and situation. The educative experience had two principles: the interaction and the continuity. And Dewey’s experience divided two types: the direct experience and the indirect experience. He emphasized logical aspect and psychological aspect of the experience. The rationale of integration in practical arts education were identified (1) organization of content following the principle of interaction: (a) harmony of logical aspect and psychological aspect of practical arts subject matter, and (b) presenting of meaningful experience, and (2) organization of content following the principle of continuity.
