The purpose of this study was to investigate what influences teachingㆍlearning environmentoriented Practical Arts has on the character change of children, and to analyze the changes of children’s character after they were taught with the help of environment-oriented Practical Arts teaching and learning programs. The results obtained from this study were as follows : First, as a result of applying the environment-oriented teaching and learning programs developed in the study, it was shown that environmental education had positive effects on the character development of elementary school students. Second, when the degree of character development in the experiment group was looked into in terms of changes in character sub-items, some improvements were found in ‘sociability’ and ‘leadership’. Therefore, it was necessary to suggest that environment education in elementary schools should be taught with the Practical Arts arts at its center, and that it ought to be systematically indoctrinated starting with as lower graders with possible.
