The purpose of this study were to retrospect the history of teacher education for practical arts education at elementary school, investigate its preceding related studies and problems which confront us now, and prospect its future. This study was mainly carried out through literature review. The major results of this study were as follows; 1) Historical periods of practical arts education for elementary school teachers were classified into a period of normal school(1938-1960), a period of 2 year education college(1961-1980), and a period of 4 year education university(1981-2006). 2) Practical arts education at the period of normal school(1938-1960) was carried out at the subject form of ‘vocation’, ‘manual work’, and ‘engineering work’. 3) Practical arts education at the period of normal school(1961-1980) was carried out at the subject form of ‘elementary industry home economic’, ‘industry home economic research’, ‘living practical arts education research’. 4) Practical arts education at the period of 4 year education university(1981-2006) have been carried out at the various forms of ‘general education course’, ‘subject compulsory course’ ‘discretional activity course’, and ‘deeping course’. 5) It was proposed that a lot of efforts for prosperity of practical arts teacher education should be made in the future considering its history.
