The purpose of this study was to review the characteristics and the roles of teacher, to analyze the previous research on teachers’ competencies of several subjects, and to find the competencies of teachers who conduct Practical Arts education ideally. The research method used in this study were a literature review and a interview with 14 elementary school teachers. The result from literature review was that the course subject matter specialty was the most important competency for teaching Practical Arts course. The result of interviewing teachers, furthermore, showed 6 competencies for teachers teaching Practical Arts course in order of importance ‘Subject matter specialty’, ‘Teaching method’, ‘Writing lesson plan’, ‘Student evaluation’, ‘Self-improvement’, and ‘Creation of class environment’.
