The purpose of the study is to explore teachers’ perceptions and utilization of children’s literature in teaching English in elementary schools and identify current problems they have when they use children’s literature. To fulfill the goal of the study, 100 English teachers in Seoul and Kyung-gi province were surveyed, and a semi-structured, in-depth teacher interview was conducted to 11 teachers randomly selected among them. The survey data were analyzed through descriptive and correlation analysis, and the interview transcripts were analyzed through content analysis. The results of the study identified teachers’ strong interest and positive thoughts regarding the use of children’s literature; in contrast, they revealed a range of difficulties with using it and low satisfaction with using the literature part from English textbooks. This study provides practical insights to improve ways of using children’s literature in English language classrooms and ends with proposing further research direction.
