In this study, a digital textbook embodied in web-based environments was developed and applied towards the enhancements of teaching and learning for Practical Arts education. This study was carried out in four stages: analysis, design, development and evaluation. The unit on Woodworking for sixth graders in the Sixth National curriculum for Practical Arts in elementary school was digitalized. The data used in this study were texts, sound, image and animation. Learners could choose various media for each learning theme, according to individual necessity and learning ability. With the use of this digital textbook, it is possible for pupils to communicate with a teacher and discuss with each other in small groups and for teacher to deal with individual variations amongst pupils by connecting directly to the internet. As a result of application of our digital textbook to their learning, pupils showed positive responses in motivation, and efficiency of learning. They also responded positively to the design and convenience of the digital textbook. We therefore suggest that the development of such digital textbook is a possible method to improve the efficiency of teaching and learning in practical arts education.
