A Study on Open Home Economics Teaching through the Method of Role Assignment according to the Differences in Individual Abilities

The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of teaching home economics according to differences in individual abilities. We compare the two groups. To one group, the method of role assignment according to the differences in individual abilities was applied, and to the other group it was not that way. The data used in this study were collected from students in four first grade classes of senior high school in Seoul. We deal with the following four questions for this study. First, does the method of role assignment according to the differences in individual abilities have an influence on the level of perception in role implementation between two groups in the course of learning activities? Second, does the method of role assignment according to individual the differences in individual abilities have an influence on the level of satisfaction in role implementation between two groups in the course of learning activities? Third, is there any gap between the students’ perception of and satisfaction with their role implementation and the teacher’s evaluation of two groups? Fourth, are there any other differentiating factors between two groups? The major findings are as follows: 1. There is a significant difference between two group in the level of perception in role implementation. That was, the experimental group perceived their role more clearly in the course of learning activities. 2. There is no significant difference between two group in the level of satisfaction with the role implementation. But the experimental group was satisfied with their role in the course of learning activities which especially require the ability of collecting and analyzing the data and thinking logically. 3. The students who perceived their role more clearly and was more satisfied with their role in learning activities, won better score from their teacher. 4. There are some other differences between two groups, as in the speed of implementing the subject, the attitude of learning, the skills of writing paper logically.
