The purpose of this study is to define the relationships between ‘the father’s vocational type’ and elementary school students’ vocational personality type in order to apply Holland’s vocational personality theory to elementary school students. The Career Investigation Test developed by Ahn was modified form as a vocational personality test instrument for elementary school students. The 5th and 6th graders in 9 elementary schools in Taegu were sampled for this study through stratified cluster sampling, and 639 questionnaires were used as final analysis. The conclusions of this study were first, the vocational personality for elementary school students were already formulated. However, there were no evidence on the specific amount of a distinction factor and a consistency factor of the subjects’ vocational personality. Second, there was a statistical significant difference between ‘father’s vocational type’ and ‘students’ vocational personality type’ when ‘students’ vocational personality type’ was an independent variable. However when ‘father’s vocational type’ was put as an i.d., there was no significant difference between there variables. This result is contrary to the assumption of Holland’s theory. The different results shown above were caused by unbalanced distribution of ‘father’s vocational type’. Therefore, a number of ‘father’s vocational type’ should be controled in a future research on Holland’s vocational personality theory.
