This study aims to present what sort of contents Practical Arts Education ought to cover, by examining how Home Economics Education has changed over the years by predicting its future. The field of Home Economics Education in Practical Arts Education has been divided into several sections: Family Education, Consumer Education, Food & Nutrition Education, Clothing & Textile Education, Environment Management Education. The changes that have been undergone up to the present have been analyzed according to related documents and statistical data which are dated from 1955(the year of the First Curriculum Revision) to 1997(the year of the Seventh). In Practical Arts Education, education on daily life as a consumer started off by teaching how to file documents and how to save one’s income. The Fourth Curriculum Revision emphasized spending wisely. As for Food & Nutrition Education until the Third Curriculum tended to stress flour-based foods and mixed-cereal foods. The Fourth Curriculum emphasized the importance of a ‘scientific’ dietary life by accurate measuring, taking safe care of cooking utensils, and eating out. The Fifth and Sixth included the subject of table setting. Clothing and Textile Education as presented in the First Curriculum consisted of content on sewing, knitting, laundry, and took up over half of the entire text. During the Third Curriculum this changed into instruction on planning one’s wardrobe and wearing and caring for clothes. Environment Management Education in Practical Arts Education has content on recycling in the home, cleaning, and garbage disposal. The future will be a digital society, an environmental society, a society of T.I.M.E.(Telecommunication, Information, Media, Entertainment), and genome analysis. Family members will be treated equally and with respect. People will prefer environmentally clean foods, regardless of cost. As for clothes, high-tech materials using artificial intelligence will be very useful, Also these textiles will be easily sewn together using special glue or tape. It will become increasingly important to install in children a sense of value, about taking responsibility for the environment-starting from elementary education. Nowadays we are living in a flood of information. Therefore it is easy to get one’s values mixed up. We should strive to learn how to select information that is compatible with our culture. Practical Arts Education should help us do this.
