The purpose of this study was to develop modular instructional material for the unit of for elementary students, and to testify the effect of the developed material. For the purpose, each sub-unit consists of three topics which are understanding computer, handling mouse and keyboard, and handling materials within the unit of computer handling. In order to testify the effect of developed modular instructional material, the following null hypothesis were stated and utilized; there is no difference between treatment group applied the modular instructional material and control group applied the traditional teaching-learning method in the unit of computer handling. Pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design was applied for testing of the hypothesis. For the treatment and control group, two classes of 5th graders were selected in the ○○ elementary school in Seoul and the treatment group was taught by the developed modular instructional material and the control group was taught by the traditional teaching-learning method. In this experimental design, and achievement test of cognitive domain and post-test by using check-list of psycho-motor domain were organized to access for finding out the effectiveness of the modular teaching. Experimental data of the study were analyzed by t-test at the level of p=0.05. The results of the study mainly concluded the following; First, the verification result of the effectiveness about cognitive domain and psycho-motor domain showed that there is significant difference in the level p<0.05. Second, the verification result of the sexual effectiveness showed that female students have a significant difference in cognitive domain as the level p<0.05. Third, the verification result of the effectiveness according to prior learning levels after pre-test showed that intermediate students have a significant difference(p<0.05) in cognitive domain. As to the results of this study, the teaching by using the modular instructional material in the unit of computer handling is more effective than the traditional instruction in cognitive and psycho-motor domain. Especially, female students who prior learning level is intermediate are more effective in teaching of cognitive domain.
