Perception on School Lunch Program of Elementary School Teachers

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception about the purpose of school lunch program and the degree of teaching practice related to foodservice of elementary school teachers for increasing the effect of school lunch program. A questionnaire was used to survey 447 elementary school teachers working at Kangwon-Do and Kyongi-Do. Major findings were as follows. First, there was a significant difference in teachers’ perception about the purpose of school lunch program according’ to their age, taking grade, student number, foodservice type, serving area, experience of in-service teacher education and courses on school foodservice. Second, there was a significant difference in the interest and degree of teaching practice related to foodservice according to their age, taking grade, foodservice type, management type, serving area, existence of full-time nutritionist, teaching experience on school foodservice. Third, the perception about the purpose of school lunch program had positive correlations with the interest and degree of teaching practice related to foodservice. Among them, correlations between same items of teaching practice matched with the purpose of school lunch program were .23-.29. This result showed teachers’ perception affects their teaching practices.
