Teaching and Learning Strategies for Developing Critical Thinking Skills in Practical Arts Education

The Purpose of this study was to propose the teaching and learning strategies for developing critical thinking skills in practical arts education, specifically in the area of home economics. By analyzing the articles and books related to the subject, this study concluded as follows: 1. Practical arts education should come out from the positivistic science perspective and move to the critical science view for functioning its role correctly. 2. Practical arts education, specifically the home economics area should include the critical thinking skills for family members to enhance their quality of life by thinking and acting reasonably and precisely. 3. Practical arts education should develope the teaching strategies which include the executive thinking skills as well as nonexecutive thinking skills. 4. For building a critical spirit in practical arts education, there is a necessity for making a climate to encourage cooperative and respectful attitude for different ideas and conflicting point of view.
