The Development of a Web-Based Instruction Material for ‘Our Lives and Wooden Goods’ Unit of Elementary Practical Arts Subject

The purpose of this study was to design and develop an efficient Web-based ‘Our Lives and Wooden Goods’ unit learning program of elementary practical arts subject. This Web program was developed in accordance with the WBI program design processes revised by the author. The main menu of this Web program was composed of five topics: our lives and wooden materials, the production of wooden goods, BBS, recommended sites and e-mail. The Web pages were developed by using Namo WebEditor 5.1 and Macromedia Flash MX. In addition to the text, graphic, photograph, animation, moving picture were used to arouse the students’ interest and motivation in the Web pages. Practical arts education is the subject which emphasizes experience; thus, the best method of teaching and learning is to learn through experience and doing. ICT in practical arts education will be useful to overcome spatial, temporal, economical limitations. The Web program was developed not only as an instructional material for teachers, but also as a self directed learning program for students. Thus, this Web program will improve students’ learning achievement in the unit. And the learners who study with this program will be able to do experiment more efficiently.
