This thesis was to be studied for the purpose of what education on character education should be and how system of its contents should be formed in the practical arts education of elementary school. First, for these, this thesis took careful looks at Korean silhag Scholar’s viewpoints on human beings, their awareness of children, their educational aims, their educational contents and their educational methods on the bases of their standpoints on human beings. In this thesis they taught children education on character education considering the sides of children’s development of awareness in teaching children, children’s concepts of thought, children’s logical reasoning, children’s social morality, and so on. While their theories were less systematic than modem ones, their theories had interests in scientific teaching methods and growth of moral personality at the same time. Second, to reflect educational images of human beings in the educational course on character education in practical arts education the result which this thesis analyzed the functions and meanings of images of human beings is that the images of human beings to be pursued by educational course exist just in superficial aims, not in definite entities functionally. To connect educated persons with educational reality is going to develop in harmony with children’s existence and the sides related to practice of children’s lives and to be able to form children’s whole personality. Third, character education experienced through education on practical course should reflect educational images of human beings and realistic teaching viewpoint, and is thought to be obliged to open the new horizon. And as the contents of practical course are in connection with their surroundings through practical activities, character education in practical arts education should teach children the virtues in the forms of lives experienced through everyday life and realize to children the rationality of practicing character education.
