Obesity and Its Related Variables of Elementary School Students

The objective of the study was to investigate the variables related to obesity in elementary school students. Major findings of the study were as follows ; 1. The obesity index of boy students was higher than that of girl students. 2. Sex and self body image variables showed significant relationship with obesity, whereas parents’ job, parents’ obesity index, and the number of family members did not have significant relationship with the student’s obesity. 3. Variables which showed significant relationship with the student’s obesity were the intake of food and dietary style, attitude to nutrition and nutrition education, and the exercise and lifestyle. 4. Attitude about nutrition and nutrition education, exercise and lifestyle showed significant relationship with obesity index.
