A Study of Teaching Practical Arts Subject in Association with Other Subjects for the Improvement of Environment Friendliness

The purpose of this study wast o suggest more systematic and constant environmental education direction of environmental friendly education which is needed to be practised in every day life to protect and preserve the environment through acquiring the proper point of view of environment in association with the practical arts subject in the elementary school education curriculum, which is the ultimate purpose of environmental education. To achieve this goal, contents of environmental education and analyzing frame of purpose for it were prepared. environmental education contents and purpose which were reflected on elementary school education curriculum were analysed and the graph which expresses range of the environmental friendly encouragement was devised. On the basis of this graph, range of the environmental friendly encouragement in four subjects (practical arts subject, ethics, social study, and science) was analyzed and the change of range of the environmental friendly encouragement was suggested when it was taught in association with elementary practical arts subjects. Teaching and learning models of combined subjects and teaching and learning materials of the environmental friendly encouragement were suggested for examples. The conclusion reached through this activity was that contents of environmental education were repeated in each subject and range of the environmental friendly encouragement was expressed concentrated in one area according to the distinctive quality of the subject. However, the range in the field of knowledge?information, function, point of value, attitude, and behaviour of the goal of environmental education was expressed expanded in large parts. This tells us that associative teaching of the practical arts subject with elementary school education curriculum is needed to encourage elementary students to have environmental friendly behaviour. This study considered ways of intensifying practical arts subject of elementary school subjects by suggesting teaching and learning models and materials which are taught in association with practical arts subjects of elementary school to prove the research related to this study.
