The purpose of this study was to examine elementary school students’ recognition of tools in practical arts textbooks in terms of students’ gender and residential areas in order to provide basic data for elementary practical arts education. The main results of this study were as follows : First, elementary school students’ overall degree of recognition of tools in practical arts textbooks was high such as fields : computer, home economics, agriculture, electricity and electronics, and construction. Second, there was no meaningful difference between male and female students although some differences were found in the case of specific fields. Third, male students’ degree of recognition was high in the order of computer, agriculture, home economics, electricity and electronics, and construction. Female students’ degree of recognition was high in the order of computer, home economics, agriculture, electricity and electronics, and construction. Fifth, urban area students’ degree of recognition was high in the fields of computer, agriculture, home economics, and electricity and electronics. Rural area students’ degree of recognition was also high especially in the fields of computer, agriculture, and home economics.
