The Development of a Career Development Indicators for Elementary School Students

The purpose of this study was to develop an indicators for career development of elementary school students. Literature review and content analysis were used in this study. The major findings in this study were as follows: (1) career development of elementary school students was defined as the construct comprised of three dimensions: self-awareness, education and occupational exploration, and career planning. self-awareness was composed of three domains: ‘awareness of self-concept’, ‘awareness of human relations’, ‘understanding of self-trait’. education and occupational exploration was composed of four domains: ‘awareness of the relationship between work and learning’, ‘awareness of the relationship among work, personal responsibility, and society function’, ‘understanding and use of career information’, and ‘attitude toward work’. career planning was composed of two domains: ‘understanding the decision making process’, ‘understanding career planning process’; (2) according to the definition of career development dimensions, this study was to produce 57 career development indicators for elementary school students with respect to career development domains. Based on the result of this study, some recommendations for further research were made as follows: (1) career development programs for elementary school students should consider 57 career development indicators; (2) further research of career development for elementary school students should be investigated the relationship between career development indicator and subject matters of elementary education.
