The Information and communications technology revolution is turning the world into what has been termed a ‘hyper-connected society’. Contrary to what some had hoped, while human life has been improved in matters of convenience and innovation, security issues from these technologies are gradually emerging as one of the most serious of threats to national security as well as individuals in the hyper-connected hybrid era. The boundary between cyberspace and physical space is disappearing, because threats and attacks in cyberspace cause considerable damage in physical reality, and incidents in physical space block the normal operation of cyberspace. In a hyper-connected hybrid era, cyber attacks or cyber crimes will cause damage to human life and society. Therefore, in order to achieve security in a hyper-connected society, technology and information security becomes the most important factor in terms of national security and national competitiveness. Above all, it is necessary for South Korea to actively respond to the future threats to national security and to make efforts to find solutions. In the hyper-connected hybrid era, we need to strengthen national security from new cyber threats, and put in place policies for economic development and cyber power through technological innovations.
