최적화 모형을 이용한 장기 렌터카 회사의 운영 의사결정 방식의 비교 분석

A Comparison of Fund-Operational Decision Making in Long-Term Car Rental Business Using Optimization

1988년 서울 올림픽을 기점으로 도입되어 2010년부터 급성장한 렌터카 사업은 크게 단기 렌터카와 장기 렌터카로 나누어지는데 단기 렌터카와는 달리 장기 렌터카 사업의 운영관리에 대한 연구는 매우 희소하다. 이 논문은 장기 렌터카에 초점을 맞춰 현재 사업자들의 운영관리에 대한 단기 의사결정 방식을 모형화하고, 이를 확장한 장기간 의사결정 모형을 제시한다. 그리고 현재의 의사결정 방식을 모형화한 단일기간 모형과 장기간 모형을 비교해 두 모형의 장단점을 실제 데이터를 이용하여 분석한다. 비교한 결과를 바탕으로 장기 렌터카 사업을 운영하는 사업자의 입장에서 데이터와 모형을 통한 의사결정을 수행함에 있어 어떤 방식의 의사결정이 적합할지에 대한 그 판단 기준을 제시한다.

The car-rental business in Korea has flourished since the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988. While this initially started as a short-term business because of short-term visitors from overseas, it has expanded to becoming the long-term rental owing to many advantages over car ownership during the decades. This study focuses on the operational management in the long-term car-rental business, in particular, the operation of cash and funds. Because firms purchase and rent brand-new cars for customers, this is a quite important issue in the longterm rental business, whereas the short-term counterpart mostly concerns resource scheduling and allocation issues. This study proposes a quantitative decision-making model based on the approach of current rental firms and extends it to a long-term decision model. Managers often use some rules of thumb to find solutions to their problems. This study analyzes the problems by finding optimal solutions to the models, compares two different models and their solutions, and finally discusses the pros and cons of two approaches from the perspective of managers. This discussion is supported by an extensive computational study, using real data collected from a current running firm.
