The Usefulness of MDCT in Acute Intestinal Bleeding

Purpose Acute Intestinal Bleeding is a diverse disease that can be from a slight symptoms to threatening one’s life. It is the preferential thing to find the bleeding point quickly. We analyze patients who examined MDCT before they take an endoscopic diagnosis and Angiography and want to know the usefulness of MDCT for the diagnosis of the bleeding point and the way decision of treatment. Materials and Methods We analyze the 36 patients who examined MDCT to confirm the bleeding points. They were admitted a emergency hospital for intestinal bleeding from January 2007 to December 2007. We used Somatom Sensation 16(Siemens Medical System, Erlangen Germany), Sorbitol 1.2L for oral contrast medium, Nonionic C.M(Ultravist 370, Schering, Berlin, Germany) for I.V contrast medium which is rapidly injected 150 mL to 3 ml/sec for upper extremity vein. As a result, we could obtain dynamic images, after IV 30~35s : arterial phase, 72s : venous phase. Results We could find the bleeding points obviously in example 3 and mass lesion is in exmple 4. Ulcerative bleeding of intestine is in example 5, Diverticular bleeding of intestine is in exmple 5, Bleeding of varix in example 1, Bleeding of Angiogenesis trouble in exmple 5, Bleeding of fistula in example 5, and bleeding of infectious in exmple 5. But we couldn’t find the reason of the remains in example 15 at MDCT. Conclusion We think that MDCT is a useful inspection for Acute intestinal bleeding patients to make a diagnosis of the bleeding point and the way decision of treatment. In case of being identified the based disease like the small intestine tumor in. CT, the unessential angiography can be shortened.
