A Study on the Design of Flux-Switching Type Superconducting Synchronous Generator

In This study, the design of a flux-switching type synchronous generator, using a superconducting wire rod, is discussed. As the existing superconducting synchronous generators generally have a form in which the superconducting field coil is placed in the rotor, they rotate along with the rotor in power generation. Thus, the cooling system for the cooling of the superconducting field coil and the exciting system for the exciting of the field coil contain complex structures, and there were multiple difficulties in terms of maintenance in addition. Since the flux-switching type superconducting synchronous generator proposed in this study has the superconducting field coil located in the stator, these problems can be solved, and the reliable operation of generator is possible even in the field of application in which the rotor has to rotate at a high speed. In this study, we designed a 10-MW flux-switching type superconducting synchronous generator and validated its performance, using a finite element analysis program.
