Modern electronic products consist of multiple modules that can perform various functions. A voltage regulator is required for supplying power to such modules. A voltage regulator includes a snubber circuit for providing protection from voltage surges, Electro Stack Discharge, and resonance. The resistor of an RC snubber circuit can malfunction due to overheating, thereby inducing problems in the products supplied to consumers, and causing monetary damage to consumers and sales companies. To address the said issue, this paper focusses on the corresponding design method involved in the circuit design stage. The proposed study analyzes the power loss of an RC snubber circuit. The power loss of a resistor due to a step input (with a short rising and falling time) and the power loss of a resistor due to a ramp input (with a long rising and falling time) were both analyzed with the help of OrCAD PSpice 16.6 simulator tool.
