An investigation on the heavy metals in the lung of 82 capture pigeons and 184 collected dogs from Seoul, Incheon and Yeongju district was carried out from 1974 to 1976. The results were as follows: 1. The highest concentration of heavy metals in the pigeon lungs was 1791.3㎍/g of iron while the lowest was 0.16㎍/g of chromium. The concentration of heavy metals of the lungs increases iron, copper, magnesium, zinc, cadmium, nickel and cobalt in that the pneumonoconiosis. 2. Both the highest and lowest concentration of heavy metals in the dog lungs were shown as 1625.8㎍/g of calcium in the pneumonoconiosis of minimum degree at Seoul. 3. The highest concentration of iron in the dog lungs was 1081.1㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of slight degree at Seoul while the lowest was 4612.8㎍/g of calcium in the pneumonoconiosis of minimum degree at Seoul. 4. The concentration of copper for the samples collected at Yeoungju was found to be highest of 9.05㎍/g while the lowest was 5.00㎍/g at Incheon. 5. The highest concentration of magnesium in the dog lungs was 452.8㎍/g at Yeongju while the lowest was 242.2㎍/g at Incheon. 6. Both the highest and lowest of zinc in the dog lungs were shown as 106.8㎍/g and 64.9㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of minimum and moderate degree at Seoul. 7. The highest concentration of cadmium in the dog lungs was 0.83㎍/g at Yeongju while the lowest was 0.10㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of moderate degree at Seoul. 8. The highest concentration of nickel in the dog lungs was 1.39㎍/g at Incheon while the lowest was 0.64㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of moderate degree at Seoul. 9. The highest concentration of cobalt in the dog lungs was 0.40㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of moderate degree at Seoul while the lowest was 0.13㎍/g at Yeongju. 10. The highest concentration of lead in the dog lungs was 1.45㎍/g in the pneumonoconisis of minimum degree at Seoul which the lowest was 0.47㎍/g at Yeongju. 11. The highest concentration of chromium in the dog lungs was 0.13㎍/g at Incheon while the lowest 0.05㎍/g at the pneumonoconiosis of minimum degree at Seoul. 12. Both the highest and lowest of calcium in the dog lungs were shown as 1625.8㎍/g and 921.2㎍/g in the pneumonoconiosis of minimum and moderate degree at Seoul. 13. The concentration of tin thallium and beryllium were detected with trace amounts.
