지역주의 하에서 현직후보자의 당적 변경이 당락에 미치는 영향: 2014년 광역의회의원선거를 중심으로

The Effect of Party Switching on Incumbent Candidates under Regionalism: Focused on the Local Election of Metropolitan Council in 2014

지역주의가 만연한 곳에서는 지역정당의 공천여부가 당선에 가장 큰 영향을 미칠 수있다.그러나 민주주의의 발전에 따라 유권자의 투표결정요인이 다원화되고 있는 현시점에서는 당선에 미치는 지역정당의 영향력을 단언하기 어렵다. 따라서 본 연구는 영남과 호남을 대상으로 하여 2014년에 실시된 광역의회의원선거에서 현직후보자의 당적 변경이 당락에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 현직후 보자의 당적 변경이 당선에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 통계적 으로 유의미하였다. 지역주의 하에서 당적을 변경하는 것은 유권자들에게 부정적인 인식으로 자리 잡고 있기 때문이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 여전히 지방선거에서 지역정 당에 의한 지역주의가 완화되지 않았음을 시사한다. 그러나 지역주의 하에서 당적 변경과 더불어 현직 효과도 당선에 일정정도의 영향을 행사하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 지역주의 하에서 유권자의 투표결정에 미치는 요인들이 지역정당을 포함하여 다원화되고 있음을 예측할 수 있다.

In places where regionalism is prevalent, whether a candidate is nominated by the regional party can have the greatest effect on the election. However, it is difficult to assert the effect of the regional parties on the election when voters determinants of voting are diversifying as the development of democracy. Thus, this study is aimed to analyze the effect of incumbent candidate’s party switching on the results of the metropolitan council election in 2014 focusing on Yeongnam and Honam. The results of this study are as follows: First, the party switching of incumbent candidates had a negative effect on the election, which was statistically significant. Party switching within regionalism could be attributed to negative perceptions among voters. It also still suggests that regionalism by regional parties has not been mitigated in the local elections. But along with the party switching under regionalism, the incumbency advantage was also having a certain effect on election. Therefore, it could be predicted the factors affecting voters decision under regionalism are multiplicated including regional parties.
