Exploring the Concept of Learning Society by John Dewey s View of Learning

본 연구는 John Dewey의 학습관을 중심으로 학습사회의 개념을 탐색하고 이를 바탕으로 미래 사회에 실현되어야 할 학습사회의 새로운 의미와 실현 방향을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 즉 기존의 학습사회 개념이 학교 학습을 제외한 교양교육이나 성인교육, 혹은 일종의 자격증 취득 등을 위한 지식을 습득하는 사회로 인식되고 있음을 비판하고 학습자의 삶을 위한 보다 본질적인 학습사회의 개념이 필요하다는 데에 문제의식을 두었다. 이러한 맥락에서 Dewey의 학습관과 학교개혁에 대한 주장은 학습사회의 개념을 재정립하기 위한 이론적 근거가 될 수 있다고 판단된다. 따라서 Dewey의 학습관을 중심으로 학습사회의 새로운 개념을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. Dewey의 관점으로 바라본 학습사회는 ‘학교-사회의 연계체’로서, ‘학습 경험의 장 (場)’으로서, 그리고 ‘민주적 학습공동체’로서의 개념을 지향함을 알 수 있다. 이러한 학습사회의 개념은 학습자의 개인적 혹은 공동체적 삶을 지원함으로써 학습자 자신과 공동체의 성장에 기여하는 사회라는 점에서 학습사회의 개념을 새롭게 밝히는데 기여할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

The purpose of this study is to explore the concept of learning society based on John Dewey s View of learning and to suggest new meaning and realization direction of learning society to be realized in future society based on it. In other words, it is criticized that the existing concept of learning society is recognized as a society acquiring knowledge for liberal education, adult education, or acquisition of a kind of certification, and the need for a more essential learning society concept for the learner s life. In this context, John Dewey s argument on the learning and school reforms can be considered as a theoretical basis for redefining the concept of learning society. Therefore, the researcher sought to explore a new concept of learning society centering on Dewey s view of learning. The concept of learning society viewed from the point of view of Dewey is as a school-society linkage in which school and society are closely linked, as a learning experience place , and as a democratic learning community . The concept of learning society can be contributed to reveal the concept of learning society in that it is a society that contributes to the growth of learner s and community by supporting the personal or community life of learners.
