Fourhundred and seventy three Strains of E. coliisolated from a feed mill, mouse, tool, water etc. in the feed milling plant, hachery, farm, processing plant during April in 1984 to May in 1985 were tested for their biochemical properties, OK serogroups and susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs. Biochemical properties of 473 strains of E. coli tested were in accordance with classification standard of Edwards and Ewing Of 473 strains of E. coli tested, 236 were classified into 28 OK groups and the remaining 237 (50.1%) were untypabe. The frequency of distribution of identified OK group were 0141:K85:K88ab (13.6%), 0138:K8l (11.0%), 0114:K90 (9.3%), 088:K- (8.5%), 020:K101 (7.2%)) in orders. The majority of 261 strains (95-100%)) were highly resistant to penicillin, erythromycin, while all of them were susceptible to gentamycin. The percentages of strains resistant to streptomycin, tetracycline, cephalothin, nitrofurantoin, ampicillin were 44.1%,29.1%, 26.1%, 18.8% and 18.4%, while the strains resistant to carbenicillin, colistin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, neomycin was less than 10%, respectively. Two hundred and forty-seven strains (94.6%) of 261 were resistant to two more drugs tested. The percentages of strains resistant to five or more drugs tested were 19.6% in the restricted use farm, 77% in the habitual use farm with antibiotics.
