Although some of zoonoses are generally recognized as significant health problems, actual prevalence and incidence of many zoonotic infections in humans and animals are not well determined. Even though clinical manifestations of some zoonoses may be severe, their symptoms are so often protean or nonpathognomonic they may mimic other diseases. i.e., influenza. Therefore, veterinarians and physicians awareness of specific environments and clinical patterns of illness may be essential to recognize, evaluate, and control the zoonotic diseases. This paper presents a review of 47 important bacterial, viral and rickettsial zoonotic diseases having significance as occupational infections in agriculture and transmissible to civilians through meat, milk, egg and other animal products. To provide some informations for local practicing veterinarians and veterinarians working for public health, possible clinical patterns of illness, and brief history and incidence of zoonoses reported in humans and animals in this country were introduced. Papers which are associated with zoonoses in this country are numerous, but in the review only important original papers were cited in the text and others were included in the reference so the readers may supplement this review with additional reading.
