Effect of chicken embryo allantoic fluid on the propagation of NDV in CEF culture was studied. Physico-chemical characteristics of chicken embryo allantoic fluid were also investigated. The experimental results were summarized as following: 1. The propagation of NDV(B₁) in CEF culture was promoted by the supplementation of chicken embryo allantoic fluid to the culture medium. 1) Log10 TCID50 0.1ml of NDV(B₁) propagated in embryonated egg was 9.0±1.0 in the CEAF supplemented group and 1.3±0.3 in the control group. 2) Log₂ HA titers of NDV(B₁) propagated in CEF cultures were 7.5±0.5(released and cell-bound virus), 4.0±1.0(released virus) and 8.0±1.0(cell-bound virus) in the CEAF supplemented group. But those of control groups were 4.5±0.5, 0.0, and 4.5±0.5 respectively. 3) Log10 EID50 /0.1ml of NDV(B₁) propagted in CEF culture was 9.3 in the CEAF supplemented group and 3.8 in the control group. 2. Chicken embryo allantoic fluids harvested from 10, 11, or 12-day-old embryonated eggs were suitable for the propagation of NBV(B₁) in CEF culture. 3. The amount of chicken embryo allantoic tluid suitable for the propagation of NDV(B₁) in CEF culture was 5~10%.
