Seventy strains of Escherichia coli isolated from chicken with Colibacillosis were tested for their susceptibility to antimicrobial drugs by the use of disc diffusion method. The majorities of them were susceptible to oxolinic acid(91.4%), gentamicin(85.7%) and chloramphenicol(70%), while the strains susceptible to kanamycin, ampicillin, and trimethoprin-sulfamethoxazole were 51.5%, 37.1%, and 28.6%, respectively. Eighty-four(93.3%) of 90 Escherichia coli strains which were tested for minimum inhibitory concentration of oxolinic acid were inhibited at the concentration of 5㎍/㎖ or less then. The test was conducted with broiler chicken to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of oxolinic acid in water against artificially induced Escherichia coli infection. Results of the test indicated that mortality was reduced, and weight gains increased in all drug treatement group.
