To investigate the mechanism of transfer of drug resistance in Campylobacter jejuni, intra-and inter-species transfer of resistance facter were performed between tetracycline and tetracycline-kanamycine resistant, plasmid containing donor of C. jejuni and tetracycline susceptible plasmidless recipient or C.jejuni and C. fetus subsp. fetus by the method of conjugation and transformation. Transfer frequency of tetracycline resistant plasmids in C. jejuni by filter mating method were ranged 10⁻⁸-10⁻⁶ for 2th mating and 10⁻⁷-10⁻⁵ for 48h mating. The increased mating period had little effect on the number of trans-conjugant. Intra-species transfer frequency between tetracycline and tetracycline-kanamycin resistant donor of C. jejuni and recipient were ranged 10⁻⁶-10⁻⁵ and 10⁻⁸-10⁶, respectively. The transfer frequency of tetracycline resistance were higher about 100 fold than that of tetracycline-kanamycin resistant strains. In the trials of transfer of drug resistance plasmids by transformation method, the plasmids isolated from the tetracycline resistant C. jejuni were failed transfer to recipient cell on the various different conditions prmoting transformation rate such as content of CaCl₂, amount of DNA, heat shock and ice incubation.
